I can’t sit by and watch another person judge and beat themselves up for not being positive or high-vibration enough to avoid attracting unwanted events. It’s nonsense and it drives me nuts.
“After 5 years of practicing the law of attraction, I’ve lost everything (my job, my dog, my dad, my health). I’m angry and sick with sadness. What did I do wrong and why doesn’t it work for me?”

LIFE HAPPENS. It just does. Challenges, trials, losses, and difficulties are a part of it—for everyone. Thinking that you are in control—via your energy— of the events in your life is partly right and partly wrong. You are always in control of your reaction to life’s events. You are always in control of the actions you take, and those actions can massively impact the content and quality of your life and future. Your energy is powerfully creative, and you can manifest what many would consider miracles with your wise use of it and your positive mental attitude. But, that’s not the whole story.
As powerful a creator as you are, you share the world with 7 billion other creators, you live on a planet evolving through its own cycles of creation, and you live in a vastness created by a Creative Intelligence supreme to all others. Can you see how it may be a little naive, or arrogant, depending on your perspective, to believe that you’re doing it all?
Now, don’t get me wrong, my desire isn’t to undermine anyone. It’s quite the opposite. My desire is to free people of the ugly feelings associated with the belief that one energetically attracts everything one endures. It just isn’t so.
The victims of 9/11, Fukushima, Katrina, Sandy, Haiyan, wars, famine, genocide, and regular run-of-the-mill street crime are not masters of negative vibrations. They are people like you and me, and the vast majority of them are as positive and desiring of good as we are.
We are powerful beings, and when we are fully cognizant of our power and the lack of it we can get on with putting ourselves in the best position to prevent or recover from life’s challenges.
You aren’t bad. You aren’t being punished. You’re alive and you are growing and learning. The education you’re receiving—while sometimes unwanted and difficult to endure—is one of great meaning, value, and purpose. The woman who emerges from this series of ordeals is stronger, wiser, and blessed with the ability to discern between substance and insignificance. No blessing will be lost on her, no simple treasure overlooked, no love squandered, no beauty is forgotten. She will know how to LIVE.
Now get yourself together, take a look at what remains, and get to the work of creating a magnificent life.
“Your legs will get heavy and tired.
Then comes a moment of feeling the wings you’ve grown, lifting.” ~Rumi
Amen!
Dear Sarah from Kansas City,
May I offer you these words – I suffered a mini-stroke (Transient Ischemic Attack) when I was in my early 30’s and raising my 3 year old little boy. I subsequently suffered transient bouts of paralysis on my right side for 4 years. I did not drive except on local streets to the market and such. I was afraid to be alone. Fear is such an awful way to live. I never in my wildest dreams brought those events into fruition from self generated negative energy. I can say in all truth that I was experiencing a lot of stress and guilt during that time in my life trying to be something I was not; a phony image of an obedient God fearing Christian women.
Back at that time, I attended a full blown Pentecostal Church, I was ridden with guilt thinking what an awful sinner I was. I later left that church and struggled to get on with my life and with a lot of counseling from a wonderful psychologist I was introduced my to Joseph Campbell. After viewing Campbell’s film entitled “The Many Faces of God.” heavy shackles and chains in my tormented mind suddenly fell away.
Thereafter, within a span of 6 months I lost my mother who was the dearest person that has ever walked this planet with me, I came out as a lesbian, and fought an awful and very ugly divorce. My mother was my last family member. I felt so alone. My then husband self-declared me unfit to continue to be a mother to our beautiful son and attempted to litigate this before the court. I did not self generate the hate that surrounded me from negative energy. On the contrary, I tried to offer a hand of partnered parenting to my ex. He would have preferred to spit on me then co-parent with a dirty, sinful lesbian. In addition, I had not worked for many years and my youth account was dwindling, I was 45 and attempting to re-enter the workforce with no relevant work skills. I did not self generate these events with negative energy. I was in the throws of spiritual growth.
In each of these very personal life shifts, God was there with me in some pretty miraculous ways and still is to this day. I’m almost 60 now and still face my own inner fears and life’s trails and tribulations. I do not self generate negative energy although I know i am quite capable of doing so. When I catch my thoughts swirling toward that direction I stand up in my mind and do a complete turn about.
There is nothing wrong with you, there is everything right with you! Listen to that tiny God seed voice inside of you and take one step at a time forward, then more forward. Stop and take a rest after a few steps, give yourself a hug and a big old smile. Despite your hearts sorrows and frustrations you will make it.. I offer you my hand as a fellow sister on this planet, you can do it, I know you can. Sending love your way, Sarah from Kansas City. Namaste xo
That, and the fact that the Law of Attraction also works for things you can’t help but be rightfully afraid of, and equally for people who are attracting things contrary to your interests, thus outgunning you by sheer strength of numbers. That is why the people being sent to their deaths in the Holocaust couldn’t simply will themselves home to safety, among other things.
