I had lunch with a lovely friend today. She’s a wealth of love, talent and ability. For many years she’s shied away from her innate gifts because of thoughts like, “Who would listen to me?” and “Am I good enough to do this?”
In an effort to legitimize herself, she went a got a Ph.D. With all delay mechanisms exhausted, I asked her, “What now?”
She sat quietly, searching for a new reason to hold back, wait a little longer, continue to play small. Finally, she asked what I thought. (I’m so glad she did, I might have imploded if she hadn’t.)
The answer is so important and necessary, I want the world to read it:
We are each a wave in the ocean of Spirit/God/Source. Our life is an aspect of the Infinite expressing through and as us. The purpose of our life is to deliver that aspect, to express the Divine as us.
I want to chew nails every time I see someone holding their gifts, talents and creativity hostage to fear and littleness.
Who are you to hold back the Divine? How audacious!
We, humanity collectively, need what you’re here to give.
The whole reason for one’s existence is to give one’s gift; it is an insult to Creation when we bury it and wile our life away in nonsense.
Silence the little mind and let the Infinite have its way.
The world needs what you’ve got to give.

I have a problem with playing small, because my largeness sometimes intimidates people. Maybe I chosen friends that are not ready for a higher learning. I find that I can be myself around more successful people. Any suggestions?
Many of the “largest” people (Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Jesus, Buddha, Mandela), towered without intimidating others. Be big, live boldly and honor us with your gifts.
What a powerful reminder, Cynthia. Thank you!
Cynthia, once again your words have spoken directly to my heart! It is as though God has placed you in my path to deliver the many messages that he has been trying to get me to understand. It is as you said "The whole reason for one's existence is to give one's gift," You have shared your gift with us by posting these things. Thank you and God Bless you for all that you are doing…which is far more than you can ever even begin to imagine!!!
Nicely put, follow your intuition and your passions as lifes guides and ya cant go wrong. Loving the ride
I have watch as people keep themselves in thier own little shell. Perhaps in many way htey do not understand that Gad as given thm these gifts or, it's to much trouble to commit. If one could break out of that shell and really understand the true purpose of life, that inner peace can be found. If they could only understand that thier importance is to be important to others. THe world would be a different place.
Yes! That’s absolutely right. I work to achieve that end daily. I do not and likely cannot succeed every moment, but the totality of the effort has a massive impact. I really enjoy your input. Be well.
I own a Deli business and just bought a Bistro in our town. I am a very service oriented, and good at listening to my intuition. As i see people in and out for a living, I found that people just want honesty with LOVE. We are in many ways, simple, scared, loving and waiting to be loved kind of people. We all put our pants on in the morning the same way. No one is different. We share the common denominator of wanting to being accepted. Be yourself, you never know when you lend a hand and teach a lesson just by loving and doing the simple things for people. Greet with joy, love from your heart and know that you cannot insult peoples' intelligence by pretending. That just has been my observation. You are big without having to be big, Just be yourself, it is far more powerful than trying too hard. Thank you Cynthia. I love you and love your words. You are an inspiration.
You’re wise, beautiful and the best friend a person could have. 🙂
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this! Why? Because I recognize my former self in it (post graduate degree included.) I can now joyfully say that I see the Divine within. What drew me to read this post? The LIGHT shining through the clouds. More proof that Spirit/God/Source pours light into us and upon us every moment of every day. Even through the cloudy days of life. Thank you for being a guiding light for so many. I love and cherish your words and YOUR LIGHT my friend.
