Cynthia,Well said financial wisdom mixed with that of personal growth. Too many of us are not filled to the brim with self-supportive confidence and accurate self-valuation. Fear of failure or rejection seems the norm. When people deny themselves, down grade themselves, and even denigrate themselves, it often reflects a need to avoid a past pain born from the same. They are, albeit stuck in the wrong mode, simply coping.Better for them to learn your lessons, to recognize and cultivate their value, to expect to be appreciated and compensated commensurate with their efforts and abilities, and to remove those nagging doubts. I was particularly impressed with your idea about "loans". For many years I have said that a loan to your kids was really a gift (because that is the way most kids see it). But, your idea about giving only "as" a gift, with no expectations or obligations, is the right way to approach it period. If it is OK with you, I would like to reference your post and incorporate that notion in my third article on teaching kids about money in the family on DaMoKi.com… I'll send cookies.Your final thought, about self-defined restriction, allows no argument and has no holes, but even if limitations are forced upon us by design or accident, we can and must continue our efforts to focus on seeking the abundance around us. Our circumstance is not us, it is simply where we will come from. Thanks for the wise words!Lawson Meadows

Wow,I learned something new. This is unique. I'll definitely go back here, and fill myself with great insights. I particularly like the ones about saying no without explaining, about loans, and about being comfortable with silence in conversations. Thanks Cynthia

Write and earn a living,Thank you. I've seen the follow button with all the faces on it and perhaps I do need one. I try to keep things simple and I think that's why I have so few gadgets. Cynthia

Zerene:I've seen so many "loans" destroy relationships and cause distress to both sides, gifts or nothing really helps. As far as being comfortable in the silence goes, I was the all time worst at it once. I used to need the space to be filled, even if it was filled with "Ummmm or aaaaah". A law professor told me to stop it and let the silence be. It changed everything for me.Be well.Cynthia
